Description
In the first single from Come to Life, a spooky bass-beat electroballad called "Want," Imbruglia repeats the haunting refrain, "I hope you get all that you want" to great effect. She repeats the verse, then ends, "take a good look at what you give up." She croons like a ghost and the beat is like a haunted house.
Come to Life is dark, with more dance beats and electronic influences than any of her previous works. Imbruglia's versatile voice demands your attention when she pronounces syllables with as much snap as a drumbeat. Songs like "My God" hit ecstatic heights, while "Scars" is more familiar, introspective Imbruglia territory. "Lukas," left off from Coldplay's recording session for the album "Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends," sees her sharing the musical stage more with the melodies rather than simply accentuating the beats, which is lovely.
