Description

The Beatles: George Harrison (vocals, guitar); John Lennon (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Paul McCartney (vocals, bass); Ringo Starr (vocals, drums). Recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London, England. "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You" were recorded in September 1962. The other 12 tracks were recorded on February 11, 1963 ("Twist And Shout" was the last song to be recorded). Includes liner notes by Tony Barrow. Audio Remasterers: Sam Okell; Sean Magee; Steve Rooke; Guy Massey; Paul Hicks. Liner Note Authors: Mike Heatley; Kevin Howlett. Recording information: Abbey Road Studios, London, UK. Recorded in between a cup of tea and a cigarette, this album is raw yet dazzling. Here were four lads, highly experienced on stage, but with little or no idea of what a recording studio was like. They were subtly marshalled by the much-respected George Martin to deliver an entire album that was exactly what the fans wanted, but was still a surprise. Things were never as simple as this again, yet the genius is there. Examples are Lennon's unmatchable rasping on "Twist And Shout," McCartney's graceful ease in singing "I Saw Her Standing There," Harrison's sparse but definite Gretsch chords, and Starr's ace vocal on "Boys."

Comments about EMM/CAPITOL The Beatles - Please Please Me (2009 Digital Remaster):

A great start and what is most amazing is the quality after mostly being recorded in one day. Strongest are the Lennon/Mccartner originals despite the covers being honed after endless performances. Modern artists could learn alot from this - the enthusiasm shines through.

What more can be said about the remasters - they are great and a must have for the Beatles collector or just about anyone who enjoys good music. Bass is prominent but not overblown - great album, great music - just great!

Remaster of the Beatles first album. One listen and I was transported back to the early sixties & found myself instantly singing along to songs I hadn't heard for decades. Fab!

Comments about EMM/CAPITOL The Beatles - Please Please Me (2009 Digital Remaster):

The first of the classic Beatles albums has excellent sound. All tape hiss has been eliminated and it's a pleasure to listen to. However, I am at a loss to know why the original George Martin mix was used. After years of waiting, you still get the vocals on one side and all instruments on the other! I still recall an early John Lennon interview in which he stated that they should get around to remixing and fixing up this situation. Sadly, this opportunity was lost.

Another gripe - after all the years of waiting, surely they could have made the CD with track information showing for CD players that have this feature? Finally, the mini-documentary is quite missable.

This album is still fresh and enjoyable and is a must for Beatlemaniacs everywhere, but it could so easily have been so much better!
